CENTERVILLE — The Centerville softball team locked up second place in the South Central Conference with wins over Clarke and Eddyville-Blakesburg Monday and Tuesday.

The Redettes also split with Mount Pleasant Tuesday night, winning the first game 5-4 before dropping the second game, 2-1.

With the 7-1 win over Clarke and the 3-1 win over E-B, Centerville ends the SCC season with an 8-2 record. The Redettes are 27-10 overall heading into Saturday’s Class 3A regional contest at home against Pella.

Maddison Starcevich earned the win on the mound against Mount Pleasant, working three scoreless innings in relief of starter Olivia Starcevich. Starcevich was a force at the plate, belting a home run and a double and knocking in two runs.

In the 2-1 loss against Mount Pleasant, ace Kristen Spurgeon was tagged with the loss despite fanning 11 Mount Pleasant batters and not allowing an earned run. Spurgeon finishes the regular season with a 22-7 record on the mound. Tristyn Stroup batted 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

In the 3-1 win over E-B Tuesday, Spurgeon got the win while Tatum and Olivia Starcevich each had an RBI for Centerville. Mallory Oden and Kelsie Moore each doubled in that contest.

At Clarke Monday, Spurgeon fanned 10 batters and picked up her 300th strikeout of the season in the 7-1 win. She also had a double and two RBI at the plate, while Olivia Starcevich tripled and Mallory Oden doubled.
