We are absolutely delighted that once again Ottumwa has a day full of activities for the Fourth of July. Thanks to South Ottumwa Savings Bank and Main Street Ottumwa, “A Patriotic Hometown Holiday” is planned Friday in Central Park.
Events start with Lunch in the Park from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be catered by South Hy-Vee.
Kids’ activities will be held in the park from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Children can enjoy face painting among other things. The bank also will have Sand in The City sand carvings.
Popcorn, cotton candy and sno-cones will be available. What sounds better than that for the Fourth of July? Proceeds from those sales will benefit the Heartland Humane Society.
Do you want a parade?
You’ve got one.
A patriotic Kiddie Parade is at 4 p.m.
Youngsters are encouraged to dress up focusing on a patriotic theme. We hope to see some “Uncle Sams” and a Statue of Liberty or two. Prizes will be given.
The Fourth of July also kicks off South Ottumwa Savings Bank’s annual Live After Five, held on Fridays this month.
Bluegrass Addiction is the band that will perform from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on the Central Park stage.
Then, it’s time to head over to Ottumwa Park for the city’s annual fireworks show at dusk.
We’re sure it will be crowded, but that’s OK when it’s a holiday and everyone is in a festive mood.
Also note that The Beach Ottumwa will be open from noon to 8 p.m. on the Fourth of July. Active military personnel and veterans will receive an admissions discount. Dizzy the Clown will be at the beach from 6 to 8 p.m..
The Beach personnel will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs during the day and serving birthday cake from 6-8 p.m. for the aquatic park’s 16th anniversary.
