One-of-a-kind finds Saturday during Walk on Art Street



OTTUMWA — Wapello Wood Carvers are carving one-of-a-kind canes for returning Iraq veterans from the Ottumwa area. The canes are some of the art work to be featured Saturday at the first Walk on Art Street.

The art and street event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Third Street and Central Park in downtown Ottumwa, sponsored by Main Street Ottumwa.

About 50 artists will be displaying their wares, including demonstrations.

Master Potter Willie Sapp from the University of Nebraska will be demonstrating, and students from Agassiz School in Ottumwa will show their one-of-a-kind chairs which will b e sold to benefit the elementary school’s arts program and also the Ottumwa Trails Systems.

Entertainment begins at 1 p.m. on the Central Park stage featuring She Swings, She Sways at 1 p.m.; the East Court Hill Strings Band and Preservation Society, 2 p.m.; Lowly Brass, 3 p.m.; and Without Walls at 4 p.m.

Other activities include events for children, local food vendors and informational tables for nonprofit Ottumwa area groups.
