Courier makes more travels around the country
Etcetera

By JUDY KRIEGER, Courier Editor

From Texas to Alaska, the Courier has been on the move again.

• Kory Hobbs and Trisha Barnes visited the world’s largest cross in the Western Hemisphere during a trip to Texas.

• Mary Fenton and Jan Noe enjoyed a trip to Arizona to see family and friends.

• Larry and Rose McKim of Ottumwa took their grandchildren, Hunter Brown and his sister, Shyenne McKim, on a wonderful three-week vacation to Canada and Alaska.

Rose said they put over 7,000 miles on their car during their trip through Canada and on to Haines, Alaska, where they went deep sea fishing and took an airplane ride to the top of the Davis Glacier.

“It was a beautiful sight,” Rose said.

The cost of gasoline wasn’t beautiful, though — $8 a gallon.

On the way home they visited such sights as Yellowstone National Park and Mount Rushmore in South Dakota.

We reported last week that “Elmer” the peacock left his home with Julia and Jim Leichty and dropped in at Everdina’s Greenhouse for a visit. After Doug Sundin’s photo of the pretty bird ran in the Courier, Julia went looking for Elmer, but he went into hiding.

On June 4, Julia called, saying that Elmer finally made it home.

A caller told her Elmer had been spotted on Bladensburg Road, and the Pearl Ogden family kept an eye on the peacock until Julia arrived to claim him.

“He’s now home and munching one of his favorites — dog food,” she said.
